Her dress code throughout the film consists of a white dress and other high quality dresses/frocks. On the other hand, the women in this film, especially young Charlie, mirror the stereotypical style of women in film noir films. From this male dress code of film noir films, we are able to perceive the seriousness of the males, showing that they always mean business wearing their suites. These dress code is strictly used on males in a large majority of film noir films, to give the males specific values. Like many other males in film noir films, Uncle Charlie, maintains the characteristics of being mysterious and is always seen sporting the classic suit and tie style, sometimes with a hat. Throughout the film, Uncle Charlie has been styled to symbolise the typical male figure of the time period the film is set in. These stereotypes of film noir icons are primarily portrayed through the male and female characters within the film. The iconography reflected in the film are very typical of the film noir genre it lives in. However, this film stands out from all of his others as the contrast between real life society and film society is so extreme. Many of Hitchcock’s films mirror the time period they’re set in portraying the use of the reflection theory. The time the film was published juxtaposes the theme and setting of the film itself. ‘Shadow of a doubt’ was published in 1943, during the years of world war 2, unlike any other Hitchcock film. The most obvious aspect of these elements is the setting of the film (when it was set). Throughout the film ‘Shadow of a doubt’ by Alfred Hitchcock (1943), the repertoire of elements used in film are all present and detectable by the audience.
